That's My World Tuesday - Floral City

For three years I lived down a dirt road in a tiny spot on the map called Floral City. Floral City is known for 2 things, the annual Heritage Days celebration and the Avenue of the Oaks. I lived along a body of water called the Leslie Hefner Canal that wound around the neighborhood and eventually made it's way to the Withlacoochee River. Those of you saw last week's "Tuesday" post may remember the Green Swamp. The Green Swamp is the headwater of the Withlacoochee, so I guess I just moved upstream a ways. Here's a shot of the Leslie Hefner

Here's Bruno out on my dock

And one of my neighbors

Here's another one of my neighbors...He was caught right off my dock

This next picture shows the fate of that particular neighbor

A few pounds of that gator ended up in my freezer and made for some fine dinners.

I hope you found this section of my world interesting. See you next week.

Oooo... your reptilian neighbor was a little one! So, how do you cook gator meat? I've had it, but don't remember much about how it was fixed.

Sayre - the usual way is to flour or bread and deep fry, but my personal favorite is Gator Piccata...slice thin cutlets and pound them thinner...flour lightly and fry till golden in olive oil...then toss in some capers and squeeze on some lemon...Yum!

Troll - when the Momma Gator and her kids took up residence across the canal Bruno stayed indoors...He was 110# and she was big enough to take him

Kevin - You must know the fish camp down at the end of Trails End Road - that little store was a life saver

FC - Bruno was the best...I miss him much

I love gator meat! but like gators, too... but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

It must've been kinda neat living there.

I loved your first neighbour and I guess your second neighbour had his uses. Lovely place to live nesxt to water, and useful having freah food delivered to your door.

BeeDancer - Of course I know the Trail's End Fish Camp! Launched many a boat from there, and stop by on occasion to see what's going on.
Down that way can be a scary place at night though...!

Hi BeeDancer! So glad you stopped by over in Niger so I got around to seeing your world! Gators at the door, lol, not bad! How does gator meat taste?

Glad you all found this one interesting...Can't worry too much about the Gators (unless you're FSU or 'Bama) cause if there's fresh water there's bound to be a gator in it

Everyone says gator meat tastes like chicken...I'm not so sure about that...To me it's more like a mild fresh-water fish, but it may have something to do with the water it lives in and what it usually eats
